QCI Recreation Newsletter
Issue 1
Welcome to our first issue of the QCI Rec. newsletter. Our web site just went live on Monday, October 7 2008.
Fall marks the beginning of change and we have had some major changes as of late in the recreation field. Masset watched the doors close on the islands only recreation facility, Port Clements still doesn’t have any doors in their gym and Queen Charlotte is losing their amazing fitness and dance studio, the Abserver. With all these changes happening QCI Rec. has been writing letters and making calls to find new venues affordable enough to make all the programs affordable for the community. Still we’ve realized that some of our best venues are free!
As you can see we have some “never before offered” programs like Surf Lessons with Operation Oceans. The QCI Rec. representatives had the chance to attend some Community Events this summer, and many islanders commented that they wanted to see more programs that drew upon the island experience such as Kayaking (we offered three classes this summer in QC, Tlell and Masset). The Kayaking and Surf classes is our way of responding to the community comments we hope that you will take part and enjoy.
We are busy building a line up of winter classes that range anywhere from fitness to the arts to cooking. We are putting together all the necessary supplies to run a two day Stained Glass program, and the Rec. Coordinator is up to her eyeballs in proposal writing to obtain funding for an island wide, free and funded alternate fitness class.
We hope that you check back often to see if there are any registered or drop in programs you would like to attend!
