QCI Recreation Newsletter
Issue 2
This past fall has proved to be quite busy for us at QCI Rec. with a new Recreation Coordinator learning the ropes and locating funding for the Island wide Alternative Fitness program. And of course, we are always looking for instructors that want to share their talents with their communities as well as coming up with other brilliant ideas to share with the island communities.
So far a total of $6,396.00 has be generously and appreciatively donated by Gwaii Trust, Northern Health and the Northern Savings Credit Union for the Alternative Fitness classes. There are classes running in Sandspit, Queen Charlotte, Skidegate, Port Clements and Masset. We are still looking at other venues and other times to make the classes more accessible to more people.
While the weather is getting chillier and stormier we are still brewing up ideas to alleviate the winter doldrums for these darker months. Perhaps something that will just let us sit back and relax with the family? We thought we would start by offering movies, for the kids, in communities that don’t have regular movie nights. You can look in our ad or in upcoming events in our local paper for the Movie that WILL be coming to you in January of 2009. We intend on continuing the movies until the weather gets less cold and the days longer and pick up again in the fall. Feel free to contact us if you want to run the concession or if you can think of a great movie that you would like to see in your community.
Look forward in the New Year for programs like Wrestling classes in Masset, Stained Glass in Queen Charlotte, Surf Classes on Tow Hill, Alternate Fitness in all communities, Aerobics in Port Clements and Masset. There were even whispers of more dance classes for the young ones in Queen Charlotte and Ball strength classes in Sandspit.
We know it may be too early to mention about our BC Ferries ticket auction in March, but we have two round trip tickets from Prince Rupert to Port Hardy valued at $1,500.00 burning two holes in our desks just waiting to find their way to a good home, or as a graduating gift for your straight-A daughter or son or an anniversary present for some deserving mom and dad. Look for our ads and posters in February.
Speaking of February we are holding our AGM at the end of this month and anyone is more than welcome to attend and give some us input about programming for your community.
We would like to give our sincere thanks for your support and for the support of our funders in 2008!
Give us a call drop us a line and Happy Holidays, best wishes for the New Year!
